Whoa. It's been a while.... to a point that I can't quite remember what I used to tell you here. Crazy, how did I used to have so much to tell?

Anywho. First off, happy new year I guess. It is a new year! Much more exciting earlier in the month than now, I am sure. Good thing CNY is coming up soon. I won't be going home this year, which is relatively dissapointing. Troubled times at the company, dad said, better stay put to not give anyone excuses to fire you. Ok... although a lay off package sounds pretty nice.. free salary for a few months... I see sandy beaches and... well, did I mention free salary? Life had more freedom when I was a grad student hovering the poverty line.

But I am old enough to know that one shall not always tell your parents what you are thinking. Some thoughts just don't look good on you... and if my brother (whom I suspect is permanently traumatized after being laid off) found out, I will be futher typecasts as the hippy scientist who can't handle real world. Well, just because I think real world sucks doesn't mean I can't handle it. The same way not winning lottery sucks. We all grow up to face more disaapointment in life... it's just that he's been in it so long he no longer notice the suckiness. That being said, he has been in a good mood recently, which probably means he has a gf. If my parents aren't so keen on us getting married I'd call them up and place a bet on that. Instead I have to put up with him sharing links to love songs on youtube because "its high quality sound". I believe they are best watched while sipping high quality tequila.

Uh oh. It's late, I better go to bed. Time flies when you babble nonsense. :) See you next time.

I wasn't sure if felt precious because 1) no body writes real letters anymore, 2)it marked a completely different time point in our lives where the sender find the need and the right to share whatever it was, with me, or 3)the realization that I actually got to hold on to something that I lost. Sometimes all you need is one bad news to spoil your day. Today, unfortunately is one of those days. I found out early in the afternoon that it takes 3-5 months to get my passport renewed here. 3-5 months. I don't know who decided that was acceptable, whoever it was must have not lived in a foreign country, because it is ridiculous. The embassy told me they have to send it back to M'sia for processing. Well, I thought that's what a foreign embassy is for, so you can do things like that when you are away? Doesn't it only takes 3 days back home? What kind of mail service are they using? Pigeons? Whatever genius reasons they have, I really don't care. I mean, how could they not see that 3-5 months is a stupidly long time to be in a foreign country without a passport? Other than the fact that you are stuck the moment you mail your passport out for as long as it takes, you don't have that one piece of ID you need in almost any government related issue. The time has come... I keep seeing wedding/engagement pictures/announcement popping up on facebook. I'm sure very soon I'll see baby pics popping up like spring bamboo shoots after the rain (I think that is the literal translation). If you are one of those who ask, "How about you?" Then you can be friends with my mom. If you are nodding your head and thinking that kind of reality check is kinda scary/crazy but you will shrug it off anyways, we can be friends. If you think I'm conflicted/bitter because of what I hinted at in the last post.. then I say thank you for paying way too much attention, but my head hurt so I might have been delusional. It would be kinda weird though, if I were to return. It would feel like suddenly everyone is 10 years older, with their respective others, career, babies etc. And all I have been doing was learning to live with myself. There is so much catching up to do.
